Domestic
lighting
Domestic lighting isn’t so different from commercial installations. Many styles used in lighting contemporary homes were first developed by commercial architects. And of course, just as lighting plays a huge part in the perception and usability of commercial properties, so does the effect of lighting have at home. Such as:
- Under unit LEDs within a kitchen or in an office, helping to focus the eyes in working areas
- Mood lighting in bathrooms to aid relaxation
- Availability of warm or hard light LEDs to replace halogen bulbs for rooms that may have less natural light
How many types of lighting are there?
There are 3 types of lighting: ambient, task & accent. Ambient lightens the whole room, whereas task is concerned with illuminating a work area and accent focuses the eye on a specific areas of a room.
Ambient Indoor & Outdoor Lighting
Ambient indoor lighting is all about lighting a room up completely. The intention is to illuminate the space entirely. Examples include lighting in gyms and leisure centres, warehousing and office space.
Ambient outdoor lighting is all about safety and security, making it possible to enhance security features such as CCTV systems or to reduce the risk of injury to workers by lighting up entrances, stairs and working areas.
Task Lighting
Task lighting differs from ambient lighting in that the focus is placed on a specific place, in some factories brighter or more natural lighting can help speed tasks up, kitchens and computer based offices also commonly install task-based lighting.
Examples of task lighting fixtures include: directional downlights, slimline bar lighting, under cabinet LEDs and pendants.
Accent Lighting
